We used cds, marker caps, marbles, paper, glue sticks, and markers to create our tops. Mrs. George used a hot glue gun to attach the marker cap and the marble. Students also learned about radial symmetry and created a design for their spinning top using radial symmetry. They all loved watching their tops spin on the floor when they finished their work! (Dec 2017) Students have been very busy creating with clay in November and December! Here are some of the creations classes made- 1st grade- Owls, 2nd grade- Snowmen, 3rd grade- Pinch Pot Animals, 4th grade- Coil Pots, 5th grade- Leaf Bowls For this project 3rd graders used real leaves to trace then look at veins and draw them. Afterwards they used glue to trace over their pencil lines. The next week they used colored sharpies to color over the dried glue. This week they are adding mostly warm colors inside the leaves, then mostly cool colors around the leaves. This year Eberwhite artists will participate in a fundraiser to benefit the PTO and Artroom! Students created drawings and painting of their choice and had to plan out their idea. When creating most students chose a theme of nature, family, abstract design, or something related to a sport. We thought our fundraiser was fun and successful! We hope to do it again in the future :) A brand new center has arrived in the Artroom! It's called the Architecture Center! Students in all grades love our new center! Currently we have T.S. Shure ArchiQuest Modern & Post-Modern Architecture Wooden Building Blocks as well as Cool Colored CitiBlocs. Students can use a guide to help them build, use their imagination, create blue prints before building, and draw their finished design. Kindergarteners have been studying what Artists do in the studio. For this lesson students choose from a variety of toys and used their scientific observational skills to draw what they see, paying special attention to shapes and colors. They did an awesome job and were happy with their results! 2nd and 3rd graders created some fabulous Artist Trading Cards in art this week. Artist Trading Cards or ATCs are 2 1⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches in size, the same format as modern trading cards such as hockey, baseball, Pokemon, etc. They are self-made unique works or small series, signed and dated on the reverse by the artist, and can be exchanged and collected by other students or given to family members. It is a fun way to make a small series of similarly themed works! There’s still time to go see the many works of our talented AAPS artists displayed at the library downtown! Our Annual Ann Arbor Public Schools Student Art Exhibit is located at the Ann Arbor District Library at 343 S. Fifth Ave. The artwork will be displayed on the lower level, in the Youth Department, and on the third floor. The art will be displayed at the Library through May 29 and can be seen during normal library hours.
It's Youth Art Month! Student art work from Ann Arbor Public Schools has turned Downtown Ann Arbor into a walking gallery. Eberwhite Artwork can be found at the Carol Roeda Studio- they do such a lovely job displaying our artwork each year! If you did not get a chance to see our art during YAM look in the slideshow below :) Young 5's, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Graders have spent a few class periods learning about class this month. Clay is one of the most exciting materials students work with! Everyone is excited! Students learn and work on various skills such as creating texture, properly joining 2 pieces of clay together, making pinch pots, and glazing. Here is the list of what each grade worked on: Y5's- Textured Heart Ornaments/wall hangings 1st Grade- Colorful Clay Owls 2nd Grade- Snowmen 3rd Grade- Pinch Pot Animal Puppets 4th Grade- Coil Pots (will be created in spring!) 5th Grade- Clay Leaf Bowls 2nd Grade Artists made these gorgous leaf artworks to pair with an Autumn Acrostic poem created in the Library with Mrs. Player! Using chalk pastels, students created a cool color or mostly cool color background with blues, greens, and violets, then colored in their leaves with a variety of warm colors- pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows. Mixing and blending is always encouraged and students came up with some fasinating new colors! Kindergarteners have been creating artworks using new painting, print making and collage techniques in a variety of ways. Begining with the 3 Primary colors and simple geometric shapes, students aranged, glued, and printed in response to artworks by Piet Mondrian. As their skills grew Kindergarten artists began collaging at liberty or within a theme. Students enjoy being able to make their own choices during their creative process. The work below dipicts such themes as Fall Pumpkins and Monsters. This month 5th graders learned about and created their own Zen Tangles. Zen Tangles are easy-to-learn, relaxing, and a fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Drawing Zen Tangles help increase focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. Students practiced creating traditional Zen Tangles in their sketchbook then created new designs with white colored pencil on black paper. 1st Graders have been busy creating these beautiful Wolf Kahn inspired Landscapes. Students thought about a season they liked and represented their season through color in their sky, weather, leaves, flowers, or barren trees. 5th graders have been busy learning about color theory as well as shading. Students created Fall or Spring Trees with warm and cool colors. They practiced shading to create interesting shapes and forms. I especially love the shape project! Each piece turned out so lovely- students created a shape out of manilla paper then repeated the same shape across their page. On another project students created colorful backgrounds to contrast against their graphite shaded forms. 2nd grade have been learning about the color wheel and color theory. We discussed how warm colors against cool colors can make objects POP out! We also learned about the artist Jim Dine and his POP art hearts! 4th grade made these beautiful winter birch tree landscapes in January. Aren't they lovely?!? 5th Grade- This month 5th graders learned about and created their own Zentangles. Zentangles are easy-to-learn, relaxing, and a fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Drawing Zentangles help increase focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. 5th graders also learned a little about perspective when they drew spooky landscapes. Kindergarten- Kindergarteners continued learning about the primary colors as they mixed them to create secondary colors for their pumpkins at night painting. Don't they look great?!? 1st Grade- 1st graders finished a project on line. They learned about an artist named Joan Miro and used some symbols similar to what he used in his paintings. They learned a new technique- wet-on-wet watercolor painting and really enjoyed it! Welcome back! Kindergarteners have been studying shapes, lines, and primary colors. They created a mural in the style of Wassily Kandinsky's Concentric Circles. 2nd and 3rd graders have also been busy creating Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) with a nature theme. ATCs are miniature works of art about the same size as modern trading cards or baseball cards. They are all 2 1⁄2 by 3 1⁄2 inches. Artists can trade their cards with others, give them away, or keep them for themselves. ATCs are becoming very popular in art classes all around the country! Students loved created these soft pastel Amazon Animals while practicing their scientific observational skills as they drew and colored from real photos. 2nd Graders have been so busy creating these awesome warm and cool decorative paper weaves! This year they also made Barren Tree Silhouettes while looking at real photos of the sky and using oil pastels. They also made some amazing snowflake collages! 3rd Graders loved using chalk pastel to create a sky and blend colors together in this pieces inspired by African art and symbols. 3rd Graders also created lizard illustrations with watercolor, and created collages using organic shapes earlier in the year. In this unit, 5th Graders learned about Aboriginal Dot Painting, color theory, pointillism, and visual story telling. For their final project, students were instructed to incorporate three Aboriginal symbols and create at least two of their own symbols to tell a story about an animal. Inspired by Cape Dorset Inuit art, 4th graders used shape, color, and line to abstract and add emphasis to their fantasy animals. |
