Youth Art Month is a collaboration between downtown businesses and our student artists. Students show off their artistic talents to their community by displaying their work in various storefronts on and around Main Street. During the month of March families can go on an art walk to view Ann Arbor students wonderful creations displayed in various store fronts on and around Main Street. Currently there are 8 pieces of Eberwhite Artwork at the Carol Roeda Studio on Main Street. K's and 1st Graders practiced making visual rhythm and repetition. Students were instructed to stick to one shape however they could change the color or size in each line. K's also had a blast printmaking with non-traditional art tools- Legos! Many students choose to build a city on paper. We have been very busy this month in the art room! Each grade created a clay project then glazed it. Below are examples of their beautiful creations! Kindergarten- Bird or Fish Wall Hanging 1st Grade- Owls 2nd Grade- Snowmen or Snow-women 3rd Grade- Snowflake Wall Hanging 4th Grade- Coil Pots 5th Grade- Slab Candle Holders Each student got to see what it's like to be a graphic designer as they designed a shirt for our school using the criteria below.
Design Criteria Think about a shirt you own. Why do you like it? Does the shirt design appeal to a lot of others? Does your design tell others something about Eberwhite? Does your design contain the word Eberwhite? Is your design in outline form? (no color added) Is your design in the portrait format? (Not landscape) Is your design neat and complete? (No tears in the paper, smudge marks, and etc.) The winning design below! Every student at Eberwhite Elementary helped to create the beautiful mural below. In their regular classroom students read Sister Anne's Hands or These Hands and talked about what acceptance means to them. Then each class came up with a sentence they liked best about what acceptance means to them to write on the middle part of the mural. In art class each student traced their hand and designed it to represent themself with symbols, color, line, and pattern. After cutting out their hands 5th graders helped to arrange them on the wall.
Kindergarteners and 1st Graders have been studying leaves, line, and color pattern. Below are some examples of 1st grade leave drawings with watercolor.
