Week of April 27 Topic: Art History
I can create a drawing in the style of Keith Haring! Keith Haring was an American graffiti artist, painter and muralist. He is known for his lively paintings of people, often made of simple outlines and shapes. He helped bridge the gap between street art and fine art galleries and museums by making art 'for everyone'. 1. If you have a sibling or family member that will let you trace them, ask them to lay down on the driveway or side walk in an "active pose". Using a bright color piece of chalk, trace around their entire body, from head to toe. Only draw the outline, no face or details inside. Ask them to do a couple different poses to trace to make a more interesting chalk drawing. Keith Haring often put multiple figures in his paintings, some even upside down! See the examples above for some ideas. Active poses examples include dancing, jumping, opening arms up for a hug, bending down or crouching- anything that shows movement. *If no one is available at home, no worries! You can draw a person or even your pet without tracing. Just use simple shapes- a circle for the head, oval for the body and long ovals or rectangles for arms and legs. Cats and dogs will also work great as the subject for this project! 2. Using a different color piece of chalk, draw motion lines around parts of your figures. If your figure is dancing, draw lines around where the legs and arms would be waving. If they are jumping, draw lines below the feet to show movement there. 3. Finish off by taking a step back. Check out your drawing, what does it need to look more complete without adding too many details inside the figure? Can you draw part of a horizon line below someone jumping, to really make it look like they're taking off? Is your drawing balanced or should you include another figure on the other side? Would adding a simple shape like a heart or making dots or lines in the background pull it all together? 4. If you don't have chalk- no worries! Use any type of drawing materials to draw in the style of Keith Haring! Take a picture of your creation and email it to Mrs George at [email protected] before the rain washes it away! |
Week of April 20 Topic: Using non-traditional materials to create with.
I can create a sculpture or a mobile using non-traditional materials! This week's theme is the process of making art with non traditional materials - materials and objects not usually categorized as "art supplies." Introduction: Artists make art differently depending on what materials they have. People have always made art, long before they could buy supplies from a store. The process of making art doesn’t require paper or paint, or even a pencil! This week, try to look at objects differently that you may not have considered using to make art before. Could you use things found from nature? Could you re-use and recycle? Create! Choose one of the options below. When you're finished take a photo and send to Mrs. George at [email protected] Option 1. Sculpture - CUT, GLUE, TAPE, PAINT, STAPLE, TIE or anything else you can think of to connect and design a sculpture using objects from home. One neat idea is to use a lot of the same thing, such as cardboard tubes, like the ones found in paper towels and toilet paper. Materials: Cardboard tubes, things around the house, things from the recycling, tape or glue Maybe: scissors, glue, tape, paint Option 2. Mobile - a mobile is a grouping of things that hang together, sometimes in a circle, or sometimes across one post or stick. With things from nature, sticks, bark, leaves or other treasures, can you tie them together to make a mobile? You could leave it natural or paint it! Below are some photos to show you the idea of a nature mobile. Materials: String, yarn or twine Maybe: Flowers, Sticks, Leaves, pine cones, acorns, |
Week of April 13 Topic: Color!
I can create a color wheel with found objects!
1. Look around your house for items such as toys, buttons, art materials, etc. that are entirely or mostly one color.
Look for PRIMARY COLORS: RED, YELLOW, BLUE.
SECONDARY COLORS: ORANGE, GREEN, VIOLET.
2. Place the objects in a circle, in color wheel order: RED, VIOLET, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE.
3. When you're done take a picture and send to Mrs. George if you'd like to- I'd love to see your color wheels! :) You can also post it to your teacher's SeeSaw website.
