The Visual Arts Program
The visual arts program is based on the belief that each child has valuable creative potential. I hope to help empower your child as well as to instill a life-long appreciation of art in each student. I will help your child to communicate, think differently, and express their imaginations through their art. Together we will make informed decisions, and discover our local and global world. In class we will use our critical thinking skills to analyze works of art, our visual world, and make decisions while creating. The art classroom is a studio where we will all be artists while trying many approaches and media.
Expectations
The students in our class are expected to be safe, be responsible, be respectful, and do their personal best. We believe that if these guidelines are maintained, we will have a successful learning environment for all.
Visual Arts and Humanities
The art curriculum frequently integrates with other areas of study such as social studies, science, language arts, and math. Humanities classes provide your child the opportunity to connect science and social studies content as they learn through all the senses while creating art. Kindergartners and First Graders will see me for their humanities classes.

Food for Thought on Art Education
In education just like in life the only thing constant is change. Students journey through the years from the uncertain days of kindergarten to the pride of graduation of their senior year, will experience this very true fact. Just as a caterpillar learns to crawl on its own will too, take the journey to become a butterfly flying on the wings of dreams. These truths are shown more so in the journey a student takes in his or her artistic abilities. From the early days of scribbling and “staying between the lines” to the days of true expression through the flying waves of the paint brush. However, what students will learn is not necessarily the change but the lessons learnt through the process of change. As their art changes so does their own ability to relate and see the world around them. Students will go through the creative process again and again, just as the caterpillar crawls on the ground of experimentation until one day they develop the confidence to change into a truly reflective individual. As this process evolves, the student will start to seek to make their art more aesthetically pleasing, and reflect what they have come to know about their world.
